Commercial Law Clerk
Our firm is seeking a Commercial Law Clerk to join our team, supporting our commercial real estate and banking & financial services practices. We are looking for a dedicated professional who has at least three years of experience in a similar role.
What you will be doing:
- Co-ordinate Administrative Services: Manage and organize administrative and legal services within the firm, including filing systems, documentation preparation, and fee collection.
- Document Preparation and Drafting: Draft and prepare critical legal documents such as closing agendas, promissory notes, officer’s certificates, resolutions, mortgages, and other legal deliverables under the supervision of a lawyer.
- Due Diligence: Conduct and review due diligence searches, including those related to the Personal Property Security Act (PPSA), liens, title searches, and other corporate or real estate matters.
- Registration and Record Keeping: Handle the preparation and registration of PPSA liens across relevant jurisdictions, manage transaction records, and maintain detailed transaction books.
- Title Work and Closings: Perform title and off-title searches, prepare concise summaries of findings, and respond to title requisition letters as required. Attend closings and act as a liaison between lawyers and internal/external parties to ensure clear communication and file progression.
- Data Review and Analysis: Review and analyze relevant data, including past sales, as part of comprehensive case management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ to less than 5 years experience a law clerk.
- College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Specifically, a Law Clerk diploma or completion of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario Certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word.
- Knowledge of database management.
- Familiarity with Teraview or similar systems for registrations.
- Fast-paced environment with a high caseload.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Dependable, client-focused, and team-oriented.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English.
- Organized and accurate with a strong focus on client service.
Additional Information:
- Wage: $35.50 to $37.50 hourly (To be negotiated) / 35 hours per week (permanent, full time)
- This is an on-site position requiring full-time attendance at the office, with no remote work option.
