About the Role
As a key member of our litigation team, you'll work closely with attorneys from case intake through trial and beyond. You’ll manage case files, coordinate court filings, assist with discovery, and ensure deadlines are met with precision and professionalism. You won’t just be supporting litigation — you’ll be immersed in it. An ideal candidate is interested in doing meaningful work for firm clients. This position works full-time in the office.
Responsibilities
- Preparing standard litigation documents, first drafts of various pleadings, orders and other court documents;
- Preparing, compiling, serving and filing court documents;
- Ensuring all hard copy and electronic filing is organized and up to date;
- Collating and binding briefs;
- Maintaining organized client files;
- Carrying out correspondence and communication with internal and external clients and law firms;
- Assisting in the scheduling of examinations for discovery;
- Handling certain invoicing procedures;
- Entering data for billing and/or time entries;
- Practice management including appointment scheduling and arranging conference calls;
- Apply proofreading and editing skills to documents and correspondence;
- File and timeline management, keeping lawyers/clerks apprised of matters/deadlines;
- Carrying out other general administrative tasks and back-up support as required by the firm.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a law firm with a practice focus in litigation.
- Legal assistant diploma/certificate
- Knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Very organized: multi-tasking and prioritizing workload while working under pressure of tight deadlines
- A team player attitude with sound judgment
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
- Understanding of commercial leasing transactions and/or construction litigation is an asset
- Attention to detail is key, supported by good keyboarding and proofreading skills
