Facilities SIG - Information Destruction: The Neglected Aspect of Privacy and Information Security
Description
NAID-Canada has a very simple belief: information is only as secure as the weakest link in its lifecycle. Far too often, little or no attention is paid to the end of a document's lifecycle. As a result, all steps to protect personal or business information are undermined if documents are not destroyed safely once they are no longer useful.
There are media reports literally every day about another privacy breach resulting from careless or unsafe information destruction. Since its founding in 2003, NAID-Canada has been educating governments and business on ways to prevent falling victim to such a needless breach. Whether in paper or electronic form, documents must be safely destroyed before being disposed.
NAID-Canada representatives will share some of the latest trends in information destruction, share advice on how to destroy information safely, and share insights into how criminal elements are constantly seizing the opportunities presented by unsafe destruction.
With identity theft top of mind in the general public, and with breach notification laws pending, never has it been more important to ensure your firm fully understands how to destroy information safely.
