Ellen Roseman is a Business Columnist with the Toronto Star. She joined the Star as Business Editor in 1997 after spending 21 years at the Globe & Mail as a columnist on consumer affairs, personal finance and mutual funds, and as Associate Managing Editor of the Report on Business.
Ellen is the author of six books. The most recent books, Money 101: Every Canadian’s Guide to Personal Finance, and a sequel, Money 201: More Personal Finance Advice for Every Canadian, are based on a series she did for the Toronto Star. They’re an easy-to-understand introduction to personal finance for those of us who are short of time and money. They include tips on how to cut housing and transportation costs, comparison shop for car insurance, find the lowest-cost banking package for your needs, invest in good or bad times, start your own business, save for retirement in and out of an RRSP, and much more.
Among her freelance assignments, Ellen does a radio commentary every two weeks on CBC Radio’s The Business Network and writes a question-and-answer column for 50 Plus magazine. She teaches courses in personal finance at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies and hosts a business show, It’s Your Money, on the iChannel digital TV network. She’s a past president of the Credit Counseling Service of Toronto, a non-profit agency that helps indebted consumers with their finances, and a long-time board member of the Family Service Association of Toronto.
