Financial Analyst
About the Role
As a Financial Analyst, you’ll contribute to the financial operations of our firm, working closely with senior leadership to ensure precision in reporting, compliance with regulations, and actionable insights to support our strategic goals. Key Responsibilities
- Reconciliations & Reporting: Prepare monthly reconciliations for the firm’s Trust and General bank accounts and lead month-end journal entries for multiple entities.
- General Ledger Management: Conduct reconciliations of accounts, including intercompany, fixed assets, and prepaid schedules.
- Billing & Timekeeper Management: Maintain accurate timekeeper setups and billing rates in e-billing platforms and accounting software.
- Audit & Compliance Support: Assist with analyses and working papers for annual audits and ensure compliance with trust account regulations.
- Budgeting & Analysis: Support annual budget preparation, conduct profitability analyses, cash flow trend analyses, and provide variance analysis on month-end reports.
- Operational Support: Maintain key financial reports, such as collections, partner capital schedules, and expense analyses.
- Profitability Analysis: Conduct monthly departmental profitability analyses and provide actionable insights.
- Collaboration: Work with HR to manage RRSP uploads and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes.
- Other: Assist with all other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or CFO.
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. CPA, CFA, or similar designation preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of financial analysis experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Skills: Advanced Excel proficiency (vlookups, IF analysis), familiarity with accounting software (Elite, Aderant, or Clio preferred), and a strong understanding of trust accounting and legal billing practices.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills. High degree of flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and demands of business partners
